Sports day for the academic year 2025-2026 was held on 20th February 2026 at Wesley turf and Fitness club,Royapettah. All sports activities at ELC were supported by The 'KSN Sports Foundation' and we are extremely grateful for their support.
Sports and games are essential for both physical and mental health of the students.It keeps them active and brings good qualities like cooperation and teamwork.At Ekadaksha,utmost importance is given to physical fitness,sports and games.Children of ELC have gross motor/fine motor activities in their daily routine.Apart from that,they have an afternoon session dedicated to sports. They do drill exercises, they engage in sports like cricket,tennis,basket ball,football and they also practice various track and field events. They are aware of how each sport and game is conducted and enjoy participating.
The much awaited Sports Day began with the josh and enthusiasm of the ELC Team.
The Chief Guest for the event was Shri.Debendra Narayan Kar, I.R.S, Principal chief commissioner of Income Tax (Retd.).He is a recipient of several accolades, including the “Distinguished Citizen Award” from the American Biographical Institute. He also encourages sports as Sir was Secretary General of Korfball Federation of India and presently Chairman of Boules Sports Federation of India.Presently he is practising as an Advocate post his retirement.
Our Guest of Honor was Mr.Murukesh Mani,an Entrepreneur and a professional squash player.He was the Former All India No1 ranking in Mens over 35 veterans category in squash in 2022.Presently All India number 7 ranked player in Mens over 40 veterans category. He has also represented the Tamilnadu squash team at Malaysian youth games in 2010 and 2011 and received Man of the series award.He has been involved in sports since young age and is a topper in fitness,discipline and life.
The day began with the welcome speech given by Ms.Archana Joshi, Director, ELC. This was followed by the torch lighting ceremony. Every child and teacher was a torch bearer in this ceremony, as this symbolic torch was passed on from hand to hand and then given the final touch by Mr. Hiten Joshi, Trustee, Ekadaksha Trust. This symbolic torch represented the light in our lives,and every torch bearer illuminated it to make each other's lives beautiful.
The March past was then conducted and led by Ms.Sumangali, Special educator, ELC. Pandi Ashok held the school placard followed by Pranav shiv who held the school flag. The ELC school flag is made up of 4 colours representing the 4 houses - red, blue, green and yellow. It also represents the fact that Ekadaksha is filled with colour. The children have been doing this march past this whole year and they have understood that they need to walk and follow.They marched with confidence, pride and a feeling of belonging that they are part of this community. Once the March past was over, the National Flag was hoisted by our Esteemed guests and Trustee followed by the Flag salutation and the National anthem.
Mr.Murukesh Mani then took the Oath for our sports day and Mr.Debendra Narayan Kar "declared the sports meet open". Mr.Hiten joshi then expressed his happiness and support to the children, staff and parents of ELC.
It was then time for the performance of the Drills. Three drills were conducted. The children participated in the drills either independently or with minimal prompts. All the drills were conducted by a Main Special Educator and children were assisted accordingly. The drills had counts from 1-8 and then backwards. At the end of each drill the children made a fun formation. The first was the free hand drill conducted by Ms.Madhumitha, Special Educator, ELC. In this drill the children did hand exercises like up-down, side-down etc. Next was the hoop drill conducted by Ms.Komathi, Special Educator, ELC, in which they used hoops as props and finally made an olympic atyle formation. Finally, the dupatta drill was conducted by Ms.Akila,Special educator, ELC, in which children paired up to do different actions with colourful cloths.The sincere and tireless efforts the children gave a wonderful feeling of "wow" in all present.
Our Guest of Honour, Mr. Murukesh Mani delivered his speech followed by that of our Chief Guest, Mr. Debendra Narayan Kar. They expressed their admiration and joy in watching the above programme. They appreciated the children and teachers for their wonderful involvement and interest towards sports activities. Ms.Kanaka delivered the "Vote of Thanks" thanking all the people who were instrumental in making this sports day event happen in a grand manner.
Then commenced the track and field events. There were 4 individual events and 2 relay events. The individual events included running race, cone transfer race,javelin throw and obstacle course race. The relay races were bean bag transfer using bucket and hoop transfer race.
The winner of the Running race, the first event , was Pandi Ashok of Green house.Our Chief guest awaded him with the medal while Guest of honour, presented the winners certificate.
It was then time for a short break. A break for our children to have their snacks and relax for a while.After the break the other events followed.
Cone transfer game, in which the children had to take flat color cones from one end and match it over the big color cones kept at the other end.Deepak of Red house was the winner of this game. Javelin throw was a modified one to suit our children,where they have to stand inside a hoop and throw a pool noodle.Aravindh of Green house was the winner of this game.Obstacle course race in which a series of obstacles were arranged in each track, the obstacles being bricks,hoops,cones,hurdles and tyres. Aravindh of Green house was the winner of this game.
The relay races were very exciting as each house participated in its full strength. The Bean bag bucket relay in which children had to transfer bean bags from one end to the other using 1 bucket and exchanging it amongst themselves. "Green house" were the winners of this race. The Hoop pass relay wherein the children had to pass 3 hoops, 1 by 1, over eachother."Red house" were the winners of this race.
After each event,the winner stood on the winners podium and was awarded the gold medal and certificate.
At the end,there were races for the parents too.The mothers had walking race and Ms.Sridevi(Sahana's mother) was the winner.In the walking race for the fathers,Mr.Prabhakaran(Pandi ashok father) and Mr.Vikram (Raghavan's father) were the winners.They were also awarded with gold medals and certificates.
It was a wonderful sports day with all our children participating with enthusiasm and good energy.
