National sports day is celebrated annually on August 29th in India.This event commemorates the birth anniversary of one of the iconic hockey players,Major Dhyan Chand.National sports day is celebrated to emphasise the importance of sports,fitness and physical activities in our daily lives.
At Ekadaksha,National sports day was celebrated with a bundle of sports activities.Pictures of Major Dhyan Chand, various sports and athletics were shown on Avaz app to the children.Then everyone took the "Fit India Pledge".It was followed by an exercise drill and a runnning drill performance by the children.
Hockey, the national sport of our country was played. The four houses - red, blue, green, yellow took turns to play. The groups were named with eminent sports personalities as a means to honour their contribution to our world in the field of sports.Red house was named "Ronaldo",Blue house was named "M S Dhoni",Green house was named "Sania Mirza" and Yellow house was named "P T Usha".The houses competed with each other in a penalty shootout where each child was given 3 to 5 chances each. The winners were awarded with medals.
Cricket is played every Wednesday at Ekadaksha. The children practice batting, bowling and fielding.
On this day a wonderful cricket session with Mr.Kaushik, who is a seasoned cricketer and also runs a gym called Yos fitness studio. He played cricket with the children of Ekadaksha. At first he bowled a few balls to understand how the children are able to connect with the ball and understand the game. After that a match was played - The greatest match ever. Two teachers became captains and chose their teams. Kaushik anna did the toss and the teams decided on batting and fielding while Mr.Kaushik bowled. Every child was given one over (6 balls) of batting. The score was calculated based on how many balls the children connected with the bat-1 point for every connection. The opposite team had 2 fielders at a time, picking the ball as an when needed. It was a fun session wherein the children played with great energy.The team who connected the most number of balls was the winner. 'Deva' was awarded the 'Man of the match' since he connected the highest number of balls. At the end they took a group picture with Mr.Kaushik.
Observing National sports day is also an opportunity to reflect on the significance of sports,promoting a healthy lifestyle and encouraging the younger genertation to engage in physical activities.Lets make it a habit to include physical activity in our daily routine and keep ourselves active and healthy.
