Krishna Jayanthi also known as Janmashtami is a Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna.Janmashtami is celebrated with great fervour and devotion in India.People make sweets, decorate Lord Krishna idols at home and offer prayers.Krishna’s favorite peacock feathers adorn the idol and his favorite murukku and butter are kept for worship during the prayer.
At Ekadaksha,Krishna Jayanthi was celebrated with devotion and enjoyment.Children played games using Krishna’s favorite things,listened to bhajan’s and expressed their devotion for Krishna.
Two games were played during the celebration.
Game one: "Decorating the Peacock" was played by blue and green house children.A chart with a peacock head was stuck on the board and children had to decorate it with its feathers.Feathers were made by the children by sticking chamki’s and beads on painted chart papers.Whichever team finished decorating their peacock first were the winners.Children took turns,took the feathers from one side,ran to the board and stuck the feathers to decorate their peacock’s.The blue team finished first and green team were the runners up.
Game two: "Climbing to the butter pot" was played by Red and Yellow house children.The butter pot was stuck on the board and the children had to build their blocks vertically up one over the other and finally place a doll depicting Lord Krishna on top of the blocks.With wonderful team work and coordination children beautifully built the block tower and helped Krishna to reach the butter pot.Red house finished as the winner while the yellow house were the runners up.
After the energetic games the children and teachers sat in a circle. They listened to bhajans dedicated to the Lord.
Janmashtami is not just a festival of fun and frolic,but also a time for spiritual reflection and self-improvement.Lord krishna is known for his wisdom and teachings.His birthday is a reminder for us to remember the importance of devotion,love,selflessness and togetherness - The core values that Lord Krishna stood for.Lets imbibe the qualities Lord Krishna taught us and strive to become better individuals.
