Ekadaksha conducted the first Tennis camp for children with special needs with the cooperation and support of the TNTA (Tamilnadu Tennis association). The camp aimed at introducing Tennis to special needs children. Apart from learning a sport, Tennis promotes a healthy body, build muscular strength and develop gross motor control. It also helps in increasing eye hand coordination. On the mental aspect, Tennis helps to learn discipline, wait for ones turn,be alert and improves social skills.
At Ekadaksha's tennis camp, 9 children learnt the sports and more from 26th to 30th December 2016. Every morning the children reported at 8.15am. The session began with jogging, warm up exercises and race drills. This was followed by playing the game wherein the children were taught to hit a forehand and backhand. Those who could connect with the ball went to the next step of running towards the ball and hitting it. The older children rallied with the coach and also learnt to serve the ball. The session ended with two rounds of jogging.
The coaches being some of the best in the field taught the basics to the children. Not only did they teach, they also analysed each child and modified techniques based on the capablity of each child. This motivated the children and every one of them was able to connect to the ball at his/her level. Click here to watch our children in action - The Tennis players.
Our dear tennis players were also taken for the Aircel Chennai open 2017, the biggest tennis tournament in Chennai. They sat with their parents and the crowd to watch what was happening around them. They were given snacks, a kit and tickets for the main draw matches. Click here for photos of the event. A beautiful anecdote - When the rest of the crowd threw their empty water bottles on and around the tennis courts, our environmentalist, Ms. Arti could not bear this. She along with her friends picked up the bottles and put them in the garbage.
Ekadaksha offers Tennis classes for children with special needs every Saturday and Sunday from 8.30am to 9.30am. Contact us for more details.
