It is Lord Krishna's birthday (Krishna Jayanthi/Janmashtami) and the children at Ekadaksha celebrated it with great enthusiasm. A Krishna-Radha idol and a cradle with Baby Krishna adorned the room. The Puja Aarti was done by the teachers and as per the tradition in Tamilnadu, Lord Krishna's little foot prints were placed. After this each child swung the cradle happily. Some swung it slow, some swung it hard and Baby Krishna indeed had a good time:-)
A modified version of the traditional game in Maharashtra 'Dahi handi' was played. 'Dahi handi' is a game that imitates the act of Lord Krishna stealing his favourite makhan (white butter). Usually it involves teams of humans climbing on each others shoulders to form 'human towers' and then trying to break a pot of butter hung from a tall pole. In the modified version of Ekadaksha, each child got a chance to hit a pot with a stick while the pot was pulled up and down by a teacher. When their attempt to hit the pot was successful, the child got to eat a little bit of Makhan. At the end Bhajans in glory of Lord Krishna were sung.
