Diwali, also called "Deepavali"(a row of lamps) is one of the most fervently celebrated festivals of India. This religious festival also represents the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness.Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth is also worshipped on this occasion.

People all over the country celebrate diwali with great joy by lighting lamps and decorating their homes with bright and colorful lights.Children in particular await diwali with eagerness for the joy of bursting crackers, wearing new dresses and eating a lot of sweets and savories.

At ELC,Diwali was celebrated with great joy and also conveying a message.

The narrator appeared dressed up as a clown which caught the attention of all the children. A small skit was performed as the Clown narrated the story of Deepavali and the victory of good over evil. The clown took everyone to the ELC Village, where children and people of the village were living happily. One day the "Asura(Evil)" entered the village threatening everyone, forcing them to worship only him.The people of the village were scared and they sought the help of Goddess Amman by offering prayers to her. Their prayers heard, the Goddess appeared in order to rescue these villagers. She fought the asura and chased him out of the ELC Village. The people of ELC Village felt so happy and they celebrated the victory of good over evil.

The second part of the celebration: How Diwali is celebrated all over the country. Apart from showing the children how Diwali is celebrated, the teachers also gave a message to the children to "Move towards a greener environment, minimise the use of crackers". In order to convey this message teachers dressed up as "Cracker" and "Diya" and did a role play.

Cracker was vibrant, moving around and bursting everywhere, producing lot of noise, smoke and dust. The teacher used a placard of cracker pictures, the sound of crackers was done through an audio bit and for smoke they used sambrani. Diya was calm, soothing and spreading light and peace. The teacher used a placard of lamps and torches were used to light up a dark room.

Finally came a lovely conversation between the "New dress" and "Sweets".Teachers dressed up as "New dress" and "Sweets" using placards. They had a conversation wherein they said that a Diwali party isn't complete without new dresses and sweets. They invited everyone to join the Diwali party. All the children joined and celebrated by doing a group dance with super energy and fun.

Lets celebrate a safe diwali with minimal crackers, more lights and more diyas. Lets contribute towards a greener environment.

Wishing everyone a "Happy and Safe Diwali".
