Navratri-Vijaydasmi was celebrated with colour and dance at Ekadaksha. This festival has many different rituals around it and Ekadaksha captured a few for the children to celebrate. The Center was all set with golu decoration which displayed all the items made by the children. It was also based on the current topics the children had learnt.
The children dressed in colourful festive wear. The day began by putting kolam and rangoli designs in the center. The children from the pre vocational group packed bags with traditional goodies. These bags were later given to the parents who came to see the golu decorations. As always, a pooja and aarti was conducted by the teachers and Prasadam was distributed to the children. This was followed by bhajan time, where the teachers sang bhajans which were repeated by others in the gathering. The bhajan got the added value with instrumental performance.
After all this, there was the garba dance on a medley of navratri garba songs(click here to listen to some garba songs in Gujarati). The children enjoyed the dance - they clapped hands up and down, front and back, with their friends and teachers, and also moved in circles.
The celebration made the children learn some rituals of navratri, understand celebration with friends and also how to be in harmony with others during festive occasions. Click here to view this harmony.
