The "Floating paper clip experiment" was planned and conducted by Ms.Komathi,Special educator,ELC.

The experiment demonstrates the principle of Surface tension,where water molecules at the surface stick together to form a elastic-like skin layer which supports objects like paper clip to float on the surface.By carefully placing the paperclip on the wet tissue paper placed in water already,its weight is distributed allowing the clip to float on the thin layer film.When a drop of soap solution is added,soap breaks the surface tension and layer breaks causing the paper clip to sink.

Based on the above principle,the experiment was done by children.

The teacher gave the demo and clearly explained the step by step instructions.Children sat along with their house group friends and did the experiment individually.They observed how the paper clip floated on water and when soap was added how it sank to the bottom of the tray.
