The activity "Different modes of transport" was planned and conducted by Ms.Priya,Assistant Teacher,ELC.
The four modes of transport - Air,Railways,Road and Water transport was introduced in a simple manner using pictures and by making respective sounds related to the transport.
Charts were stuck on the floor and on the wall for each mode of transport
- Blue chart and blue dupattas and a big beach picture representing water transport chart was stuck on the wall in the same line as on the floor.
- Black chart with white lines and a big picture representing road transport was stuck on the wall in line with the floor chart.
- Railway track was stuck on the floor and a big picture of Railway station was stuck on the wall in the same line of the railway track floor chart.
- Blue chart with cotton were stuck to look like sky and clouds and a big picture of Airport was stuck too in the wall representing Air transport.
A demo was given by the teacher for each mode of transport - How the vehicles move in each transport along with the sounds.
In a big tray, pictures of vehicles of all modes of transport were kept.Children were chosen by using chit and each child chose a vehicle picture from the tray.Which ever vehicle they picked, they had to navigate through that mode of transport, walk through the charts and keep the picture on the tray kept near the chart.
Example - If the child chose car picture,he had to walk with the picture on the road and put in on the tray kept near the Road transport.
Finally all the children, grouped themselves class wise and explored all the four modes of transport, walking through the path, along with the sounds.
The bright visuals representing each mode of transport made it appear so real that children were able to understand the concept very well. The sounds given for each transport and the simple movements made it interesting that all the children enjoyed doing the activity with so much fun and interest.Using visual, auditory inputs as well as involving simple movements made learning the different modes of transport easy and interesting for the children.
