The story “Hare and the Tortoise” was narrated by our Assistant Teacher Ms.Revathi. As she narrated the story, the teachers enacted it playing roles of the animals – Hare,Tortoise,Parrot,Zebra.
First a warm up was done to energise the children with an action song of animal sounds and actions..The teacher showed flash cards and explained the actions of the animals: Hare – Jump, jump ; Tortoise – slow strolling ; parrot – flying action; zebra – fast running action respectively.
The teachers then enacted the story using face masks of the animals. The story began with a casual chat between the hare and the tortoise. They then discussed about having a race to see who is the fastest. .As the race begun, the Hare ran quickly but after a while, seeing the tortoise coming far behind, the Hare decided to eat some fruits and vegetables which he found, after which he took a nap under a tree. The hare was in deep sleep. He was suddenly woken up by a parrot. The Parrot told the Hare to wake up and continue the race as the Tortoise was almost nearing the finish line.By the time the Hare woke up and geared up towards the finish line, the Tortoise finished and won the race. The Zebra announced Tortoise as the winner of the race.
The children watched the story interestingly and did actions and sounds along with their teachers. Two boys then enacted the Hare and Tortoise jumping and strolling in the race tracks. Thus, the simple story was presented in an interactive manner with active participation from all the children and teachers. They also learnt the moral “Slow and steady wins the race”.
