Its a pleasure for everyone of us to see the swirling of colors. Not only children but also adults love to have fun with colors. The experiment "Milk fireworks" was conducted by our Assistant Teacher Ms.Priya.
She introducted the experiment using a chart, the things required and by explaining the experiment. It was done in groups. While one group did the experiment, the others were listening to music and waited patiently for their turn.
Milk was poured in a plate. Then the children chose a color, took a drop of it and placed in the milk. Then a drop of vim gel (Soap solution) was kept over the paint. Some children used ear buds while some used spoon to transfer the vim gel over the paint. As the soap solution was kept over the paint, the colors started swirling, moving and spreading around which was fascinating to watch.
The simple science behind the Milk fireworks is that milk contains molecules of proteins, vitamins, minerals and fat.The molecules are mixed together but not combined. When drop of liquid soap is added to the milk, the soap reduced the surface tension of the milk and the soap particles interact with the fat molecules present in milk. This interaction causes the fat molecules to move around and create swirls of color.
At the end of the experiment, the teacher used colorful pom poms and shook it to represent how the colors moved in the milk solution. Many children tried to do the experiment independently .They learnt to listen to the teachers instructions, follow the teacher, wait for their turn and watch what was happening with curiosity and interest.
