The whole school coloring activity was conducted by our special educator Ms.Akila. The children tried to do the activity as independently as possible listening to the simple instructions given by the teacher.The activity was planned and executed with a smooth flow.
The basic colors – Red,Blue,Yellow and Green were stuck on the wall along with pictures of objects of the colours. An introducton rhyme was played in which the teacher showed these colors to the children. The children listened, hummed and did actions along with the teacher.
After this a little warm up was done to make the children energetic. Simple actions were done like – clap,tap on the lap,tap on the floor.
Now it was time for the main coloring activity.A big chart was stuck on the floor in the middle of the hall.The charts were labelled with the names of the children and grouped according to their class.The children were called and instructed to assemble around the chart in front of their name label.Teachers sat behind of next to the children in order to help them.
The teacher used different art material – Crayons,sketch pens,paint,stamps and gave clear instructions along with a demo.
While coloring each color,rhymes related to that particular color was played and the teacher went around waving that particular color dupatta. Example: While they were coloring using red color crayon,rhymes with red color theme was played and she went around the children waving a red color dupatta..The same was done while they colored with blue sketchpens,yellow paint and finally did stamping with green paint.
After the coloring was done,the children cleared their trays,washed hands and reassembled. Each child name was called out while others clapped and appreciated.
The children learnt to watch the demo,listen to instructions and imitate. They learnt to used different medium of art. They also learnt about the basic colors. The songs that were played encouraged them get involved into the coloring activity and have more fun. The activity gave audio,visual and tactile inputs. It was an enjoyable as well as relaxed atmosphere.
