This activity was conducted by Ms.Akila,Special educator,ELC.
A mock zoo was set up at ELC with monkeys, elephants and birds. Each room was set up with one animal.
Dora came in singing the famous Dora song and took the children class wise for the zoo visit. The children followed Dora to each of the animals set up. They had to cross obstacles – Cross the hurdle to enter the monkey room, walk through the hoops to see the elephants and walk over a bridge to see the lovely birds.
While entering each room the sound of the animals were played and as they entered they saw soft toys and pictures of the animals. Once they were in the room, they did the various animal movements like jumping like a monkey, stomping like an elephant, flying like birds.
The zoo visit was a treat to all the senses. The beautiful charts and toys displayed were a visual and tactile treat. The animal sounds gave an auditory input. The movements while crossing the obstacles covered the kinesthetic sense.
This was not only fun , it involved all the sensory inputs – Visual,Auditory,Tactile ,Kinesthetic (VAKT).
