Ms.Akila,Special educator at ELC demonstrated and conducted the Lava Lamp Experiment.

She demonstrated the experiment for everyone. Water was taken in a glass jar and food color was added to it. To this oil was added and mixed well. When Eno powder was added to this mixture, bubbles started forming in the jar. When the sodium bicarbonate molecules in Eno reacts with water molecules,it releases carbon dioxide which forms bubbles that raises up the jar.

For creating more visual impact, lights were switched off and a focus light was kept on the jar. This way the children enjoyed watching the bubbles clearly.

Each house did the experiment with different food colors – yellow, red, purple, blue. Each color developed a different kind of bubble and texture which was fascinating to see.

The children learnt to observe, listen to instructions, mix things and do the experiment independently. As different colored lava lamps produced different bubbles, watching bubbles raising up and glowing in the light was an amazing and exciting experience for the children.
