Exploring musical instruments: The first time

Exploring musical instruments was conducted by Ms.Akila,Special educator,ELC.

A brief introduction was given using Avaz. The children were introduced to the instrument with sound. The instruments were:

- Jal jal

- Drum

- Tumbler with spoon

- Bottle filled with rajma

There were 2 rounds.

In round 1, the children were called house wise. The children explored all the 4 instruments one by one in sequence.

In round 2, the houses sat together. The teacher came to each house and asked a child to choose an instrument of his/her choice by pointing in the tab. One kind of instrument was given to each house. Then music was made based on the instrument name called out by the Teacher. For eg:

- When the teacher said "Drum" the house having drums played it.

- When the teacher said "Bottle" the house having bottle played it.

- When the teacher said "All together" all the houses played their instruments simultaneously.

The children enjoyed playing the instruments. They listened to instructions and patiently waited for their turn too.

Exploring musical instruments: The second time

Ms. Priya, Assistant Teacher at ELC, conducted another session for exploring musical instruments. This time she made them follow and play a rhythm which was familiar to them. The same instruments as above were used. The teacher clapped her hands in a rhythm and the houses followed accordingly.

Due to the exposure given already, this time the children were at ease and were able to play the instruments independently and tried to follow the rhythm.
